TN2-Into the Wild After Dark: A Nocturnal Hike in Belize’s Jaguar Preserve

6 hours

Moderate

Experience Belize’s jungle after dark on a guided night hike in the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. Trek to a scenic summit, visit a hidden waterfall, and descend under the stars as nocturnal wildlife comes alive.

Step into a different side of Belize—where the rainforest shifts from day to night—on this guided evening adventure in the renowned Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, often referred to as the world’s first jaguar preserve.

Departing from Placencia, Maya Beach, or Seine Bight, this experience is designed for travelers seeking a deeper connection to Belize’s natural environment, combining light adventure, wildlife awareness, and immersive jungle exploration.

Hike Through Belize’s Rainforest at Golden Hour

Your journey begins with a guided hike through lush tropical forest along the Tiger Fern Trail, one of the most rewarding trails in the preserve. This moderate to intense 5.1 km hike gradually leads you to a scenic summit viewpoint, with time to pause, learn, and take in the surroundings along the way.

Hidden Waterfall Experience

Along the route, descend into a quiet valley to discover a double jungle waterfall, a peaceful setting where you can rest, cool off with a swim, and enjoy the natural beauty of Belize’s inland landscapes.

Sunset in the Jungle

Return to the summit in time to witness the transition from day to dusk. As the light softens over the forest canopy, enjoy a light dinner in a truly unique setting, surrounded by the sounds of nature.

Night Jungle Hike – A Different World

As darkness settles, your experience transforms. Equipped with headlamps, begin your descent through the rainforest as it comes alive with nocturnal wildlife and sounds unique to Belize’s jungle ecosystem.

This portion of the hike offers a rare opportunity to observe the forest in its nighttime rhythm—an experience that is both calming and quietly thrilling.
